Packed yet compact Rockwell Center

Avatar

For many, Rockwell Center Makati is synonymous with classy and chic homes, upscale restos, and swanky shops, making it a popular stomping ground of the bougie set.

For some of us, this area is an easy pick because it feels like a second home, having spent a good chunk of our youth at the all-girls’ school a stone’s throw from Power Plant Mall. At the risk of carbon-dating myself, I saw this place back when it still literally resembled a power plant.

Beyond the feelings of nostalgia it brings, what makes this neighborhood in Barangay Poblacion a favorite is its hodgepodge of reliable establishments and how these are all well within walking distance of each other. You don’t have to take your car, hail a cab, or book a ride-sharing service to go from one place to the next.

Do you need to take your furbabies to the vet? There’s the Makati Dog and Cat Hospital just along Rockwell Drive. Are you looking for a quiet spot to work or simply to chill? There’s Nihon Cafe Bel Air, Commune Cafe, Good Sh*t Coffee, Saglit by Flower Ranch Cafe, and Bolo Coffee Club, just to name a few.

There’s H&J and Handlebar where you can watch football matches live—yes, even at ungodly hours, when you’re just not willing to settle for a replay later in the day. There’s a place to answer your every craving, whether it’s for pad thai (Som’s), samgyupsal (Jumong), queso birria (OnlyPans), or street tacos (El Chupacabra).

Of course, Power Plant Mall itself has an abundance of options where culinary delights are concerned.

Suffice to say, Rockwell Center has almost everything you need. It’s cozy yet bustling with excitement, compact yet packed with all the conveniences of living in the city.
