CEBU CITY—A subsidiary of Ayala Land Inc. is set to start the construction of a temperature-controlled storage facility in Consolacion town, northern Cebu in a bid to meet the increasing demand for stockpiling perishable goods in Central Visayas.

Ayala Land Logistics Holdings Corp. (ALLHC) led the groundbreaking for the construction of ALogis Artico Consolacion in Barangay Tayud on Aug. 9.

This would be ALLHC’s second facility in Cebu province following the addition of ALogis Artico Mandaue in 2022.

ALLHC chief operating officer Patrick Avila said their focus was to meet the rising demand for dependable modern cold storage solutions, which are vital to preserve the quality of perishable goods and reduce food waste and postharvest losses.

“By investing in this facility, we are not only broadening our capabilities, but also ensuring that we can provide our clients with various locations that can meet their needs,” he said.

ALLHC caters to diverse sectors, including frozen meat, seafood, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, among others.

The firm hopes to complete the new facility by the third quarter of 2025.

The facility is accessible via the Cebu-North Coastal Road. Mactan-Cebu International Airport and the Cebu Port are both just a 30-minute drive away.

Call of the time

The storage hub will be equipped with 16 cold rooms with temperatures ranging from 5°C to -25°C and one processing room. It will have a capacity of 6,000 pallet positions.

ALogis Artico Consolacion will be registered with the Board of Investments, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Bureau of Plant Industry to ensure that the facility will meet stringent industry standards for food safety and quality.

Alvin Leal, regional director of the NMIS, said, “I consider Cebu as an economic hub that distributes meat products outside of Cebu going to Mindanao and the adjacent provinces of Cebu …We look forward to having another cold storage facility that will help us implement a safe and sound meat production for the whole constituents of Cebu and other provinces.”

Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado said, “The population of Cebu is tremendously multiplying. Within five years, it is going to double. The cold storage facility is a call of the time.”
