Immerse in otaku culture at this year’s Otaku Expo Tanabata Festival at SM Megamall Megatrade Halls 1-3 and geek out over a wide array of activities, personalities, performances and other attractions.

Organized by Ozine Events, which has been bringing anime events closer to Filipino fans since 2005 through their various showcases including Ozine Fest, Anime Fair, AniCon, Arts and Sticker Fest and Cos Festival, this event is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of anime, manga and cosplay lovers over this weekend.

Named after the Tanabata festival in Japan, typically celebrated in either July or August (depending on the area), Otaku Expo gives fans a chance to get into Japanese summer festival vibes with activities like goldfish scooping, target shooting, wanage (ring toss) and senbonbiki (pull a string).

Cosplay competitions

The expo is the perfect time to unleash guests’ competitive spirit while enjoying Japanese pop culture at the Kimono Cosplay Competition, Pet Cosplay Competition and Singing Contest, and the return of the Battle of the Bands.

Other fun competitions include pizza-eating contest, snack haul challenge, Kamehameha relay challenge, bottle flex game, Pocky Minute and guess-the-flavor game.
