After he paid tribute to them as among the country’s modern-day heroes, President Marcos hailed the Philippines’ six-member team to the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games as “champions” in the eyes of Filipinos.

Addressing para-athletes Allain Keanu Ganapin, Angel Mae Otom, Agustina Maximo Bantiloc, Cendy Asusano, Ernie Gawilan and Jerrold Pete Mangliwan, the President encouraged them to “compete with the heart of Filipino warriors and show the world the strength of our people.”

In a heartfelt message posted on his Facebook, Instagram and X accounts, the President said the para-athletes’ commitment to their training despite challenges “exemplifies the spirit of the Filipino people.” The country’s delegation will join 4,350 other para-athletes from 168 nations in the Paris Paralympic Games, which began on August 28 and will run until Sept. 8. —JULIE M.
