Kim Myung-soo, also known as Infinite’s L, is a man with unbelievable visuals, earning him the moniker OG King of Visual.

He’s grateful for the compliment but, he said, “I should bring more than visual, and be that person you can always be proud of.”

Decades after his group’s debut, Kim has proven that he’s more than just a pretty face. He’s talented and gives the best fan service, too.

His personality and face card shone during the “Reboot” fan meeting in Manila on Aug. 10 at the New Frontier Theater. The event was promoted by DNM Entertainment. He performed songs from his first mini album “24/7” and fans felt special because Manila is the city where he sang the songs live for the first time.

He opened the event with “My Universe.” Kim later explained that the songs in the mini album are perfect for particular hours in a day.

“So for this hour the perfect song would be ‘My Universe,’” he said. It is his favorite track, and suited the vibe of the night. Later, during his ment (talking segment of the show), he assured his fans that he would get closer to them.

He fulfilled that promise with his second song “Love U Like U,” from the soundtrack of the drama “Shut Up Flower Boy Band.” He went down the stage to get near his fans.

He was very adorable. The way he welcomed his fans with a soft smile, high energy, bonus a cappella songs and reactions to everyone’s antics showed how comfortable he was.

English

It was hilarious how he tried to show off English proficiency. During one segment, the audience read to him the request being flashed on the screen: He was being asked to do the “Tiramisu Cake” dance challenge. “I can read that English. Don’t worry,” he assured his audience, making everyone laugh.

He also gave detailed answers and ended them with ‘Next question, please.”

During the balloon relay, a fan was confused about the game. The translator approached the fan to demonstrate, and Kim was so passionate that he ended up joining the translator in explaining, as if he wanted to swap roles with him. It was chaotic and funny at the same time.

“My happiness is you. So, I will also make you happy,” Kim said.

Kim sang a cover of “Creep” by Radiohead, which was requested by Ovespirits (a combination of L and Infinite’s fandom names) so they could hear his vocals. He knew they enjoyed the performance because he repeated the bridge of the song in a cappella, making it longer and higher, which earned screams from the fans.

The excitement could be felt when he performed Infinite’s “Real Story” at the end of the event. A lot of people in the audience were looking forward to this because they wanted to see Inifinite onstage. But for the meantime, Kim is enough.

The audience chanted “dashi dorawa,” a nod to Infinite’s debut song, “Come Back Again.”

For his encore, he sang “How Can I Not Love You?,” his album’s title track.

Moments

Filipinos have developed a penchant for making foreign acts say “eyy,” and Kim was no exception. He curiously asked the translator what it meant, which made the crowd laugh. After playing games with his fans, he used “eyy” enthusiastically, which his audience appreciated.

He kept using the expression at random times, even when he was backstage getting an outfit change.

He adapted the expression and changed it to “el” to make it sound like his name, and even changed the hand sign to the letter L. Fans quickly copied him and did it again and again throughout the show.

After four years, Kim finally returned to the Philippines to see his Filipino fans and perform for them. But even when he wasn’t here, the connection he has with his fans has never been severed by distance and time. He mentioned his group and members several times during the fan meeting. He even introduced himself as “Infinite’s L,” which intensified the screams of the crowd and their wish to see Infinite in Manila again.

According to Kim, there is a difference between Myung-soo and L.

L is a singer, an actor, an entertainer, while Myung-soo is a person who can always have fun with his fans. “ A guy who will always listen to you,” he said.

But whether he is Myung-soo or L, Kim’s gestures at the fan meeting showed why his fans adore him.

Before leaving the stage, Myung-soo and the audience took a picture together. He read aloud a banner held aloft by fans that said: “These moments with you will be our favorite memory.”

Indeed, it was a night worth remembering, a beautiful moment fans will never forget for the rest of their lives.
