Ex-immigration man with firearm arrested at DOJ

Avatar

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has tightened security in its main office in Manila after a dismissed immigration worker was arrested on the premises with an unlicensed firearm on Tuesday.

“He knows a lot of people here, he’s very familiar with the system. He has been dismissed from the service before, so there is really a problem,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said during a press briefing on Wednesday. He explained that the suspect has a mental health condition and has been “described as a scammer by many other people.”

“His case is illegal possession of firearms. We have already started tightening our security because we know we can be vulnerable given the number of cases we are handling,” Remulla said. —JANE BAUTISTA
