Deep, enduring friendship of US and PH

The United States and the Philippines marked the 248th Independence Day of the US and the 70th Philippine-American Friendship Day on July 2 with a lively celebration at Shangri-La Fort, Bonifacio Global City.

The evening began with a heartfelt performance by the Department of Foreign Affairs Chorale, setting the tone for the festivities. The celebration showcased the diverse range of musical talents of different Filipino artists, including Memphis blues, New York hip-hop, Detroit Motown, Nashville country and New Orleans jazz.

In her address, US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson highlighted the deep and enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing their robust economic ties, shared values of freedom and democracy, and strong defense collaboration. The past year has been significant for the US-Philippine partnership, marked by the historic trilateral leaders’ summit in April, which reaffirmed the commitment to peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.

Economic relations between the US and the Philippines are thriving, with notable developments including the Luzon Economic Corridor aimed at sustainable investments and the first-ever US Presidential Trade and Investment Mission, which resulted in $1 billion in new investments.
