Boots Anson-Rodrigo leads Mmpress honorees
In her almost six decades in show biz, Boots Anson-Rodrigo has received countless acting and lifetime achievement awards, but very rarely, she said, from fellow media practitioners.
For that reason, being named one of the honorees by the Multimedia Press Society (Mmpress) felt “extra special” for the veteran actress.
“This means a lot to me because it’s from people you work with. They understand where you’re coming from, all the effort that you put into your work… We speak the same language, we’re on the same page,” she said in her speech at the recent Mmpress kickoff night at the Dengcar Theater in Quezon City.
Anson-Rodrigo was recognized for her body of work in film and television, and for being a “trailblazing leader” in the industry. She has been with the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation for the past 30 years—18 of which (2002 to 2020) were as president.
“If it weren’t for the media, producers and on-camera producers wouldn’t be able to effectively connect to our audience,” she pointed out. “Thank you for being our conduit.”
Founded in 2004 and currently led by chair Jun Nardo and vice president Rose Garcia-Fabregas, the Mmpress was formerly known as the Entertainment Press Society—the award-giving body behind the annual Golden Screen Awards for television.
This year, the organization revamped itself to include not only traditional media and industry workers, but also those on digital, social media, and other emerging platforms.
The other personalities honored for their industry contributions were Regal Entertainment executive Roselle Monteverde, film and television producer Malou Choa-Fagar, television host Boy Abunda, seasoned entertainment journalist Jo-Ann Maglipon, and actor Dingdong Dantes.
“Without you, half of what we do wouldn’t be communicated properly,” Dantes said. “The pace of change… is so fast. But this is a testament that we can keep up with the evolution happening in the industry.”
