Ilocos workers get wage hike

Workers in the private sector and kasambahays or domestic workers in the Ilocos Region will receive higher minimum wages starting next month, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of Ilocos Region (RTWPB-1), in a statement on Monday, said it motu proprio issued Wage Order No. RB 1-23 on Oct. 9, granting a P33 daily minimum wage increase across all sectors upon effectivity.

This brings the daily minimum wages to P468 (from P435) for the nonagriculture sector employing 10 or more employees, and P435 (from P402) for the nonagriculture sector employing less than 10 employees and the agriculture sector.

The RTWPB-1 also issued Wage Order No. RB 1-DW-05, increasing the monthly minimum wage of kasambahays from P5,500 to P6,000.

The wage orders were affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission on Oct 16, and shall take effect on Nov. 7.

The last wage orders for workers in the private establishments and domestic workers in the region were both issued on Oct. 10, 2023, and became effective on Nov. 6, 2023.
