Laguna remains perfect after whitewash of youth side
Manila Digger stunned Dynamic Herb Cebu while Stallion Laguna stayed unbeaten to grab the lead at the resumption of the Philippines Football League over the weekend at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Gambia native Modou Manneh scored the winner in the 68th minute while Zachary Taningco was named Man of the Match in Digger’s 1-0 upset of Cebu for its second win in three matches as the league goes full blast after an international break.
Cebu’s defeat came before resuming its AFC Champions League Two stint on Wednesday with a trip to Thailand for a match with Muangthong United at 8 p.m. Philippine time.
Stallion dominated the Philippine Football Federation youth national team, 4-0, with Finn McDaniel, Kenshiro Daniels, Jose Bezerra Dourado and Fami Ibrahim all finding the net to claim its third win in as many games.
That catapulted Laguna atop the table with nine points, three clear of Cebu, Digger and One Taguig, which also notched a victory.
One Taguig edged out Davao Aguilas-University of Makati, 2-1 after former national team mainstay Oli Bias delivered the eventual winner past the hour mark.
Defending champion Kaya-Iloilo got back on the winning track with a 4-1 triumph over Maharlika Taguig as Japanese Shuto Komaki produced two goals.
Kaya improved to four points for fifth place on one win and one draw in two matches. Iloilo hosts Hong Kong’s Eastern Sports Club in the ACL 2 on Thursday at Rizal Memorial.
Loyola FC downed Mendiola FC 1991, 3-2, to secure its first win after two defeats to start the league season.
