Talk of the Town: Peeling an onion

Comment on “Peeling an onion,” (The Long View by Manuel L. Quezon III, 10/23/24) via https://opinion.inquirer.net:
Other countries probably look at this and think, “No wonder Filipinos can’t be taken seriously.” Leaders who throw out challenges and then duck out like they’re late for a fiesta make it hard for the nation to shake off the reputation of being a bit of a joke.
It’s all posturing, and in the end, there’s little substance—just a fading image of a tough-guy act unraveling. If the article’s goal is to show why Filipinos seem clownish on the world stage, it’s done that well. It’s a lesson in how to build and tear down a myth, leaving nothing but an empty spotlight where the “tough guy” used to stand.
