Lady Tams dominates Tigresses to stay perfect

Far Eastern University pinned a first loss on University of Santo Tomas on Saturday, with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 victory boosting the Lady Tamaraws’ chances of bagging a twice-to-beat privilege in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Proving to be more effective as an opposite hitter, Jean Asis scored 12 points, a chunk of them when Far Eastern thwarted repeated attempts by the Golden Tigresses to extend their opening Pool F match.

“We have always had a hard time beating them,” Asis, a natural middle blocker, said in Filipino. “This is very sweet because we beat them in straight sets. I guess we did what we had to do.”

The victory, carved out in an hour and 45 minutes after the last of Asis’ eight kills, was the fourth straight win overall for the Lady Tams, who have a 1-0 slate in this round.

The Tigresses, the UAAP runners-up to National University last season, slipped to 1-1 but still remained in the hunt for one of two quarterfinals bonuses staked here.
