From Hans Christian Andersen to José Rizal
Denmark’s National Day celebration, held Sept. 23 at Ayala Museum, highlighted the remarkable cultural and historical connections between Denmark and the Philippines.
Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin shared that Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales resonated with influential figures like Dr. José Rizal, who translated several of the Danish writer’s stories.
During the festivities, Mellbin emphasized the Philippines’ potential, citing its young population, diverse talent, and abundant natural resources.
Danish companies have actively invested in the country, creating high-quality jobs and enhancing productivity in key sectors such as agriculture and health.
He expressed optimism about future collaborations, including advancements in public services, the shipping industry, and green fuel production, as both countries aim to deepen their economic ties and pursue a free trade agreement.
He thanked the Philippines for its commitment to international partnerships and its support for Ukraine, highlighting shared values and goals.
Mellbin also encouraged everyone to recognize the Philippines’ potential and work together toward a prosperous future, reminding attendees that “together we can!”
