The road to 100
This year, Wilcon Depot set the bar high. Barely had the year started, we embarked on launching our first new store for 2024. The mission was lofty and daunting. We were serious about the #FlyingHighTo100 expansion campaign. The company’s goal was clear—100 stores by yearend. And as a look back at the stores we opened in 2024, it is evident that the entire country was benefiting from this aggressive expansion.
More people, more opportunities
The first stop was just an hour or so from Metro Manila. We launched the first official DO IT WILCON (DIW) store in Morong, Rizal on January 12. Store #91 was the sixth branch in the province, proving that the clamor for accessible construction and home improvement solutions was rising.
The grand opening at Manila East Road Lagundi, Morong, Rizal was graced by the Honorable Mayor Sidney B. Soriano, Vice Mayor Jose Fred Feliciano, and Wilcon Depot executives including SEVP-COO Rosemarie Bosch-Ong.
Morong Rizal is a nondescript town nestled in the heart of picturesque Rizal province. Its population as per 2020 government data constitutes 2.14 percent of Rizal’s total population. And with its population, growing at a rapid pace of 4.3 percent, it is no wonder that Morong is a promising consumer base for Wilcon Depot.
Empowering communities
Wilcon Depot crossed the archipelago to open Store #92 in Valencia, Bukidnon on January 26. Located in the heart of Mindanao, DO IT WILCON (DIW) Valencia was the second store to open in Bukidnon.
The province is home to almost 200,000 people in about 40,000 households spread over a land area of approximately 100,000 hectares. This makes Valencia City the local government unit serving the greatest number of people in the province and is considered as the agri-tourism capital of the province of Bukidnon.
The decision to open stores in strategic locations goes beyond mere revenue. It is all about empowering communities. The DIW store in Valencia City has transformed into a hub of innovation, inspiration, and expertise, inviting customers to experience the Wilcon brand of unparalleled quality and service.
Confidence in thriving markets
Next, the expansion fever hopped over to the lush areas of Mindanao. Wilcon Depot’s big box in Koronadal, South Cotabato aims to bring impressive product lines to Koronadaleños which were previously beyond their reach. So on March 22, Wilcon Depot Store #93 opened its doors to the public.
While before even the idea of opening an establishment in the Mindanao area was scored as a risky venture, Wilcon Depot also believes in the improving peace and order situation of the south and its robust possibilities.
More than bringing the essentials to the community, the mere presence of Wilcon Depot and its expansive range of premium products underscores its confidence in the region’s potential.
During the merry season of Philippine fiestas, Wilcon Depot opened Store #94 in an emerging powerhouse location, Villamonte, Bacolod on May 31. Again, the move to bring the products closer to the people empowers the community and brings valuable job opportunities stimulating local employment.
Wilcon believes that no one understands people’s needs more than their own. Wilcon Depot in Villamonte, Bacolod also helps consumers save their hard-earned earnings as they won’t have to travel to Talisay, Negros Occidental for their building and home improvement products.
In sync with tourism and business
Store #95 opened along the central plains of Pangasinan, replete with magnificent churches replete with history and charm. Wilcon Depot in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan was launched on June 7, a month coming at the heels of the fiesta season.
Consistent to its mandate of providing the essentials of building and home improvement, Wilcon also expands to areas that are emerging tourist and business hubs.
The same drive to sync corporate expansion with a province’s tourism and business growth is very much present in Store #96 which opened in Roxas City, Capiz on June 19. Local employees and LGU representatives expressed delight and optimism when the Wilcon Depot team decided to set up shop in their area.
With a population of about 180,000 people, the most populous city in Capiz, Roxas City abounds not only with sumptuous seafood fare but also business and construction opportunities.
The abundance of its marine life is duplicated in the business and tourism potential of the place. Capiz is likewise considered as an industrial heartland dotted with major industries, making it an ideal location for Wilcon Depot.
One-stop shop
It was a no-brainer to open Wilcon Depot La Trinidad, Benguet on September 6. In the heart of the Cordillera region, Store #97 of Wilcon Depot, the Philippines’ leading home improvement and construction supply retailer was much anticipated among the residents of the area. That’s because they found their premium products for home, building, and renovation needs.
The convenience of having a one-stop shop for even the most intricate or complex building essential is valuable to every consumer. From the cool winds of Benguet, the next stop for the Wilcon expansion juggernaut was Pala-Pala, Cavite. On September 13, Wilcon opened its 98th store, this time in progressive Cavite province. Again, consistent with the Wilcon mold, a large part of the staff are locals thereby boosting community employment. Wilcon has always treasured its roster of employees. Their employees are their soul and the frontliners of service to their precious customers.
Stronger, faster, higher, together
2024 is an Olympic year. And with passion to excel, it may well have been an “Olympic” year for Wilcon Depot. It kicked off with a goal to hit 100 stores by yearend. As of this writing, Wilcon is a hairline away from that target with more than 3 weeks to the end of December. On December 6, Store #99 opened in Pagbilao, Quezon.
Store #100 is set to open in Lubao, Pampanga on December 13. On track, spot on, Wilcon is about to hit its target for the year. The industry continues to be challenged by factors that some find it hard to even imagine. But resilience, a motivated work force and tenacity inspire Wilcon to find more ways to reach the Filipino builder even unto the farthest corners of the archipelago.
The countdown to 100 stores is about to end. But Wilcon Depot’s drive to keep uplifting the customer experience, utilizing technology to enhance systems, accelerating growth and unraveling emerging markets and premium products for the Filipino builder continues.
Indeed, the Olympic fervor of higher, faster, stronger—together burns bright in Wilcon Depot.
