How does a Lexus fit in this Year of the Wood Snake?
January 29, 2025 is the start of a new year for many of us.
No, I haven’t completely lost my marbles nor have I discovered how to manipulate space and time. I am, of course, referring to the start of the Chinese New Year – one of the biggest celebrations in Chinese-speaking cultures for over three millennia, according to University of Sydney professor and Sinologist Xiaohuan Zhao.
This year is known as the Year of the Wood Snake. Although snakes have long been associated with evil (such as the serpent in the Garden of Eden in Roman Catholicism), Zhao said these creatures are referred to as little dragons that shed coats (snake skin), symbolizing good luck, rebirth and regality.
He added that snakes symbolize the pursuit of love and happiness, as well as wealth, wisdom and longevity. These happen to be similar characteristics that have defined how Lexus has crafted its cars over the last 35 years.
“I think it goes back to the core values when Lexus was incepted – durability, Japanese craftsmanship, amazing customer experience,” Lexus Manila president Carlo Ablaza told Inquirer Mobility in an exclusive interview earlier this month.
“A durable, dependable, worry-free luxury car that will be on the road for years – matibay na luxury car,” he added.

Predictions are quite varied this Year of the Wood Snake.
Those with the Tiger, Snake and Pig Zodiac signs are likely to face challenges in 2025. Zhao notes that red, which traditionally represents good luck in Chinese cultures, is especially potent in 2025 because of its association with Fire.
He said it’s because Fire helps mitigate excessive Wood energy to maintain balance and harmony. Wood is also represented by green, which can attract good luck and favorable fortune for those born in the Year of Wood Snake.
Finally, Zhao said gold represents wealth and prosperity. It also correlates with the direction of the west, which is particularly auspicious to counteract the eastward energy of Wood.
