This February, 19 non-working local holidays will be observed across the country
President Marcos has declared 19 non-working holidays in several areas across the country for the month of February to commemorate local festivals and significant events in history.
Last week, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the proclamations with Mr. Marcos’ approval, and they were posted on the Official Gazette website on Tuesday.
The President, in proclaiming the said local holidays, said it is “fitting and proper that the people… be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.”
Proclamation 787 declared February 1 as a special non-working day in Camarines Norte to mark Jose Maria E. Panganiban Day, or the 162nd birth anniversary of Panganiban, who was a propagandist and writer for La Solidaridad.
Proclamation 774 designated February 3 as a special non-working day in Biñan City, Laguna, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of its liberation from Japanese forces during World War II.
The same day is also a special non-working day in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija under Proclamation 788 – this time to celebrate the city’s 75th founding anniversary.
Proclamation 789 designated February 6 as a special non-working day in Consolacion, Cebu to commemorate its 105th founding anniversary.
Proclamation 775 declared February 8 as a special non-working day in Tiaong, Quezon on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of former Sen. Claro Recto, who was born in Tiaong.
Proclamation 776 designated February 10 as a special non-working day in Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte in celebration of the 35th anniversary of its founding under Republic Act 6851.
The same day is also a special non-working day in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte under Proclamation 777. This is to celebrate the Pamulinawen Festival in honor of St. William, the patron saint of Laoag City.
Proclamation 790 designated February 11 as a special non-working day in Candoni, Negros Occidental for its Dinagyaw sa Tablas Festival, which honors the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, the city’s patron saint.
February 11 is also a special non-working day in Talisay, Negros Occidental under Proclamation 791 to commemorate its 27th charter anniversary.
Proclamation 792 declared February 13 as a special non-working day in Paranaque City for its 27th cityhood anniversary.
Proclamation 778 designated February 17 as a special non-working day in Taytay, Rizal to celebrate its “Araw ng Pasasalamat: HAMAKA Festival,” which features the town’s traditional garments and woodworking industries.
Proclamation 779 designated February 18 as a special non-working day in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental to celebrate the Tawo-Tawo Festival, which commemorates the bountiful harvest of the season.
Proclamation 780 declared February 19 as a special non-working day in Bago City, Negros Occidental for its 59th charter anniversary.
Proclamation 781 designated February 22 as a special non-working day in Socorro, Surigao del Norte to mark the 64th anniversary of the town’s creation under Executive Order 219.
Proclamation 782 designated February 24 as a special non-working day in Zamboanga Sibugay to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the province’s creation under Republic Act 8973.
Proclamation 783 declared February 26 as a special non-working day in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay for the BOG Festival and to mark the 65th year of its creation under Executive Order 380.
The same date is also a special non-working holiday in Zamboanga City under Proclamation 784 on occasion of its 88th charter anniversary.
Proclamation 785 designated February 27 as a special non-working day in General Santos City to celebrate its 86th founding anniversary and the 36th Kalilangan Festival, which honors the arrival of the first 62 Christian settlers in the city in 1939.
Finally, Proclamation 786 designated February 28 as a special non-working day in Tanza, Cavite for its 11th Araw ng Tanza, or the renaming of the town from Santa Cruz de Malabon to Tanza.
