An ever-growing family
Toyota Motor Philippines just held its marvelous thanksgiving celebration with friends from the local motoring media at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in BGC, Taguig City recently.
Aside from spending time with familiar faces and the much-anticipated big raffle prizes being thrown to the table as the Japanese auto giant’s kind gesture of thanking the media for the year just past, another thing worth licking their lips over were the big announcements coming from the country’s number one car company.
“We always look forward to starting the New Year among friends and family. And I am very encouraged to see our family grow,” exulted TMP chairman, Alfred Ty during his opening remarks in front of a crowd of journalists and company executives.
He then continued with announcing the country’s total accumulated record number of vehicle units sold in 2024. According to combined sales of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc., Truck Manufacturers Association and other players, the year 2024 churned out big numbers of 474,000 unit sales.
“It’s a new all-time high,” Ty said. The figures beat the record number sold back in 2017 of 473,000 units.
Ty then furthered: “This new record is much more than just a set of numbers. It represents a nation that is always on the move. It reflects moving people and goods across the country, a growing and vibrant economy.”
For him, car sales also mean more jobs, more investments, more revenue for the government, and more investments for the country.
“It also means more fun, more enjoyment and more family time.”
Toyota’s significant local record numbers
Moreover, other than announcing the nation’s big sum of automotive sales, the TMP top honcho likewise divulged the big numbers of Toyota in 2024.
“We, at Toyota, are happy that we can still continue to play a significant role in the country’s rapidly transforming automotive industry,” he said.
“With sales of 218,019 units last year, Toyota and Lexus recorded another all-time record high.”
He said that the milestone is the carmaker’s 23rd consecutive triple crown; thus, making the country among the top 10 largest markets for the car brand. The pecking order then, as it stands, is as follows: United States, China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Australia and India, with the country taking the last spot.
This achievement also, more importantly, secured jobs for the company’s 69,000 employees across its dealership network nationwide. Likewise, this brings $1 billion worth of exports.
Ty also acknowledged his team for bringing back the Tamaraw, now its Next-Generation version, back to the country.
“It’s a real game changer.”
Over half a million new cars in 2025
Moving forward, according to them, local vehicle sales are expected to reach a new high topping 500,000 units this year, with favorable economic conditions expected to boost the spending power of Filipinos.
“As a result, we are projecting sales to grow to over 500,000 units, half a million new cars—512,000 units to be exact—representing a sustained growth of 8 percent,” Ty shared.
Their volume sellers will continue to be the Toyota Vios and the Innova, with the Next-Generation Toyota Tamaraw eyed to churn out 20,000 unit sales this year.
