DigiPlus plans P3-B capital outlays

Digital entertainment platform DigiPlus Interactive Corp. will spend up to P3 billion this year to support its expansion in Brazil and improve its facilities as its customer base continues to grow.
Celeste Jovenir, DigiPlus vice president for internal relations, last week told reporters that P660 million was already spent to cover the license fees, minimum capitalization, financial reserves and other operational expenses related to the company’s Brazil debut.
DigiPlus officially made its entry into the Brazil market last January after obtaining a federal license to operate sports betting and other online games in the South American country.
The five-year license cost around $6 million.
The rest of the planned capital outlays for the year will be set aside to upgrade information technology infrastructure and renovation of existing facilities, Jovenir said.
Last month, DigiPlus chair Eusebio Tanco confirmed that the company’s registered users doubled to 40 million in 2024, showing that Filipinos continued to flock to online gaming platforms.
The Brazil iGaming, or online gaming, scene is expected to contribute significantly to DigiPlus’ user base, according to Tanco.
He likewise clarified that while they were “continuously looking at many more markets,” DigiPlus had yet to identify its next international target, particularly another country where iGaming was legal.
For now, Tanco noted that they would focus on developing games that would cater specifically to the Brazilian audience, with sports betting likely their top priority.
DigiPlus, which operates games like BingoPlus, ArenaPlus and GameZone, saw its earnings balloon by 314 percent to P8.75 billion in the first nine months of 2024, buoyed by the retail games segment and new product offerings.
