BIZ BUZZ: Dizon’s duty calls

Avatar

When the country’s new transport chief was called to serve the public, he immediately said yes. Vivencio Dizon, who was just sworn into office last week, replaced Jaime Bautista, who stepped down to focus on his health.

He did say, however, in a press briefing last week that “it was a difficult decision.”

The newly minted Department of Transportation (DOTr) secretary is already familiar with government duties, previously serving as president and CEO of Bases Conversion and Development Authority and presidential adviser on the flagship program and projects during the Duterte administration.

But he admitted that public service is quite a stressful job, especially compared to working in the private sector. Prior to his appointment, Dizon was the chief regulatory officer of Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.

“At the end of the day, if you’re called to serve, you have to answer that call. It is a calling that we all have to answer once it is given to us,” he said.

Dizon said he has “no time to waste” and is very much ready to realize the country’s massive infrastructure projects.
