Tagle spearheads prayers in Vatican for Pope Francis

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, pro-prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization, led a prayer service for Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican at 9 p.m. on Tuesday (4 a.m. Wednesday in Manila), which was attended by pilgrims and senior Church figures.
Tagle prayed for the Pope’s health, and asked that he experience “the solidarity and closeness of the Christian community.” The rosary is part of a nightly initiative that began on Monday, led by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state.
According to the Holy See Press Office’s update on Wednesday, the 88-year-old Pope had another “quiet” night and continued to rest at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.
His condition remains “critical but stable.” The Holy Father was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 14 following breathing difficulties due to bronchitis.
