Cool Smashers, Angels play for flag in AVC Manila

Powerhouse PVL squads Creamline and Petro Gazz have been tapped to represent the Philippines in the AVC Women’s Champions League, a club tournament featuring the best in the Asian region, which gets off the ground more than a week after the All-Filipino Conference.
There will be a total of 12 teams from 11 countries taking part in what was formerly known as the Asian Club Championship, with the Philippines, being the host, allowed to field two.
Three imports are allowed per squad, but with Petro Gazz’ MJ Phillips and Brooke Van Sickle still having their affiliations with USA volleyball, the Angels will tap just one more import for the event set for April 20 to 27 at PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
It is still unclear if Creamline, which boasts of the best local crew in all of volleyball, will be maximizing that privilege.
Flying Titans triumph
The All-Filipino Conference, where the Cool Smashers and the Angels are comfortably in the quarterfinals already, will end on April 12 if all playoff games go the distance. The quarterfinals will start this week.
The tournament draw will take place on March 12 in Bangkok, Thailand, meaning both teams need to finalize their rosters soon.
Meanwhile, Choco Mucho repelled a determined Chery Tiggo side, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23, on Saturday night to secure the fourth quarterfinal spot in the All-Filipino at Philsports Arena.
Sisi Rondina led the charge for the Flying Titans, delivering an 18-point performance, including back-to-back off-the-block hits that capped their rally from five points down in the stretch.
