Meralco’s March power rate up by 26 centavos

Avatar

More than 8 million customers of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) may pay more for their power bills this month as the company implements a 26-centavo increase per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in its electricity rate.

In a briefing on Tuesday, the power distributor said the adjustment would bring the overall rate to P12.2901 per kWh from last month’s P12.0262 per kWh. This means a household consuming 200 kWh will see an additional P53 in their electricity bill this month.

Meralco—which earns from distribution, supply and metering charges—said the increase was due to the “conclusion of reset fee adjustment in February, higher transmission charge and feed-in tariff allowance (FIT-All).”

Transmission charges likewise went up by P0.1294 per kWh.

This month’s power bills would also include the P0.0351 per kWh increase in the FIT-All, a charge imposed on consumers to support the development of clean power sources.
