Fans of motorcycle racing were unfazed by last Saturday’s unpredictable weather at the Carmona Racing Circuit. Participants still showcased their skills on two-wheels during Yamaha Philippines’ Racing Team Launch. The event, which happened last March 8, provided group riders with the chance to hone their abilities and relish the experience of riding on a circuit.

Hanzel Leyva, Yamaha Motor Philippines Motorsports and Safety Promotions assistant supervisor, highlighted the benefits of the event for Yamaha club riders: “It enhances the capabilities of the riders since they’re being taught by our coaches,” he said.

The day saw a robust turnout of at least 133 participants, with the majority being members of the YClub. Media representatives and digital creators also participated in the track day, testing their speed on the circuit.

Leyva added, “We have the official coach for the Yamaha BLU CRU Philippines Development Program Joey ‘Storm’ Romero, who studied the science of racing abroad and is applying his knowledge here in the Philippines.”

The event spanned the entire day, with track runs that started in the morning and ended at around 4 p.m. The venue buzzed with activity, featuring sponsor booths alongside bike displays. Among the highlights were the YZF-R6, ridden by Yamaha Philippines Racing Team’ McKinley Kyle Paz, the first Filipino to compete in the Asia Road Racing Championship and affectionately known as “The Wonderboy.” Also on display was the Sniper 150, piloted by April King “Rocket Boy” Mascardo, who secured 3rd place finish in Race 1 of Round 1 at the Asia Road Racing Championship in 2024.

In the late afternoon, the race track became the focal point of the ceremony, which honored select riders and introduced the latest addition to the Yamaha Philippines Racing team. The team is set to compete in the 2025 Asia Road Racing Championship, with the first round taking place in Thailand this April.
