US invokes Rico law vs Venezuelan ‘gang’ members

Reuters

More than two dozen alleged current or past members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang have been charged under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations or Rico Act, a federal law created to combat organized crime.

The US Justice Department said on Monday that the charges against 27 people are part of a broader push by President Donald Trump to prosecute and deport alleged members of foreign criminal gangs operating in the country.

Trump was elected last November in part because of his stance on illegal immigration.
