Five fun dates with mom

Avatar

There’s no gift more precious than time spent with mom. Here are some fun things you can do with her for Mother’s Day and beyond.

Learn to make rugs with mom. You can book a rug tufting class for two with Rug Rat (rug-rat.co; @rug.rat.ph on Instagram) at Bumi and Ashe (bumiandashe.com; @bumi.and.ashe on Instagram). Bumi and Ashe has branches in Cubao Expo in Quezon City and Malugay in Bel-Air Makati. It also has pop-ups in BGC, Alabang and BF Homes Parañaque. Choose designs that are meaningful to you and your mom. And the best part? Mom can bring home and use what you made—a lovely reminder of your fun day together.

Make pottery together. Sign up for a pottery class. You can give wheel-throwing a shot or, if you find that intimidating, go and make mugs or try hand-building. Either way, you and your mom can spend a fun few hours bonding and being creative together. There are different studios to choose from. We’ve tried and enjoyed sessions at Wabi Sabi Pottery Studio and Cafe (wabisabistudioph.com; @wabisabistudio.ph on Instagram; 4th Floor, Hallare Building, 10 E Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City) and Laro Ceramics (laro-ceramics.com; @laro.ceramics on Instagram; GF, YDG Building, 219 Katipunan Avenue, Blue Ridge A, Quezon City). Bumi and Ashe also offers pottery classes. Wabi Sabi has a “Moms & Mugs” Mother’s Day wheel throwing workshop on May 10 and May 11.

Acupuncture at Centro Holistico

Have a holistic health day. Go to Centro Holistico (centroholisticoph.com; @centroholistico on Instagram) and get some treatments with mom. Maybe acupuncture? It’s a surprisingly relaxing experience. Their doctors do regular acupuncture, acudetox, and cosmetic acupuncture. They also do a great ventosa. Centro Holistico also offers energy healing, intuitive counseling, life and health coaching, colon cleanse, lymphatic dry brushing and IV nutrient therapy. Centro Holistico has branches in CommerCenter Alabang, The Grove by Rockwell in Pasig, and Scout Rallos corner Scout Tuazon Streets in Quezon City.

Paint and party. “Paint. Sip. Laugh.” That’s the tagline of Sip & Gogh (sipandgogh.com), a place where you and your mom can unleash your inner Van Gogh while you enjoy some wine. You can choose an open session and have total creative freedom or, if you and your mom have never painted before, you can go for a guided session. At the end of the session, you get to bring your masterpieces home. Sip & Gogh has branches in Eastwood (0998-8866107), Century City Mall in Makati (0919-0028690), and Congressional Avenue (0917-8823686).

Get moving with pickleball.

Play pickleball. The pickleball craze in the country continues, and if you and your mom haven’t picked it up yet, now would be a great time. Don’t worry, pickleball is beginner-friendly. Bring the family and play doubles. There are different pickleball courts you can go to. SM Supermalls has opened courts in a number of their branches including SM Sta. Mesa, SM Marikina, and SM Bicutan. Make a day of it—play, grab a bite, and take mom shopping for her Mother’s Day gift.
