SC launches 6 new Bacoor City courts
The Supreme Court has inaugurated six new courts in Bacoor, Cavite, including a deaf-friendly one to ensure persons with disabilities have access to the court.
In a news release on Friday, the SC said Associate Justices Rodil Zalameda and Jose Midas Marquez led the inauguration of the Bacoor City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branches 114 to 119 at the Main Square Mall in Barangay Bayanan on March 13.
“Branch 115 of the RTC, City of Bacoor, presided by Judge Charisma Nolasco, took the initiative to be a ‘deaf-friendly’ court to contribute to the SC’s goal of attaining equal and inclusive justice under the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027,” it said.
“Its court staff studied basic sign language and can now communicate with deaf litigants.”
In his remarks, Zalameda said the inauguration reflects a shared vision for a fair and efficient justice system, reinforcing the judiciary’s commitment to accessibility and excellence.
“Accessibility ensures that justice is truly available. Having the proper facility for our trial court improves court efficiency and prevents delayed proceedings … Greater efficiency means better service to our people,” he said.
According to a United Nations report, the hearing-impaired lacks access to justice, citing the shortage of sign language interpreters despite legislation for equity in judicial settings.
