PH-US troops hold air training drills in Cagayan

Troops from the Philippine Army’s 18th Scout Ranger Company and their US counterparts recently conducted a joint air assault training exercise at the Cagayan North International Airport as part of the ongoing “Salaknib” Phase 2 exercises.
“The drill focused on enhancing joint operational capabilities and rapid airfield security response. Utilizing CH-47 and ‘Black Hawk’ helicopters, both forces conducted mission planning, detailed rehearsals, and airfield security at the Calayan Airstrip,” Philippine Army Spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said of the May 22 operation on Wednesday.
He added that the training tested real-time coordination, swift troop deployment and airfield security protocols. “Salaknib,” which means “shield” in Ilocano, reflects the historical bond between the Philippines and the US dating back to World War II, when their troops fought side by side to defend freedom and democracy.
“Salaknib” is the 10th iteration of the joint annual military maneuvers between the two countries’ forces.
