House adopts Senate bill for more Muslim cemeteries

The House of Representatives has adopted the Senate’s version of a measure that requires all local government units (LGUs) to set up Muslim cemeteries in their areas.

In Tuesday’s plenary session, lawmakers unanimously approved on third and final reading House Bill No. 11461, or the proposed “Muslim Filipino Public Cemeteries Act” before adopting Senate Bill No. 1273, or the draft “Equal Access to Public Cemeteries Act” as an amendment to the measure.

HB 11461 aims to provide a legal basis for LGUs to open in their respective areas public cemeteries for Muslim Filipinos to preserve the sanctity of their Islamic belief, practices and customs regarding burials.
