Police ask public for info on House official’s killers

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced on Monday the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to identify and go after the suspects in the killing of a 63-year-old House of Representatives official at his young daughter’s birthday party.

In a post on its official Facebook account, the QCPD said that witnesses were undergoing interviews for possible clues while all leads were being pursued.

Mauricio Pulhin, the House committee on ways and means chief technical staff, was shot at 2:55 p.m. on Sunday at the venue of his daughter’s birthday celebration in a subdivision at Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.

The QCPD said its initial investigation showed that two unidentified suspects entered the venue and shot the victim at close range. As they fled on a motorcycle, they also fired at the subdivision’s security guard before escaping.

Pulhin was brought to the FEU-NRMF Hospital where he was later declared dead by a doctor.

The QCPD called on the public to provide any relevant information about the shooting or the suspects by going to the nearest police station or by calling the PNP Hotline 911, QC Helpline 122, or 0917-8403925.

Speaker condemns killing

Speaker Martin Romualdez condemned Pulhin’s killing on Monday and urged law enforcers to ensure that justice would be served.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic death of Director Mauricio ‘Morrie’ Pulhin,” the Leyte representative said in a statement.

“This crime must not go unanswered. Justice must prevail.”

He described Pulhin as “a long-serving and dedicated public servant,” adding that “his professionalism, integrity and quiet commitment to his work earned him the respect of his peers and superiors alike.”

“We condemn this brutal act of violence in the strongest possible terms,” Romualdez said as he called on the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigation.

“All angles must be pursued—including, but not limited to, his professional affiliations—so that the truth may come out and justice may be served,” he said.

At the same time, Romualdez urged members of the House secretariat and congressional workforce to channel their collective grief and anger over the killing “into vigilance, unity and unwavering demand for justice—not only for Director Pulhin, but for every Filipino who falls victim to senseless violence.”
