Magnitude 6.1 tremor shakes Sarangani, South Cotabato

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Davao Occidental on Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake sent people out of their homes in Sarangani and South Cotabato provinces, but there were no injuries nor damage recorded.

The tremor occurred at 7:07 a.m., 85 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town, Phivolcs said. The quake had a depth of focus of 79 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

Phivolcs recorded 22 aftershocks, ranging from magnitude 2.4 to 5.2, but only one of the aftershocks was felt while five were plotted.
