FPI urges more reforms to boost PH industry

The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) has called on the Marcos administration to fully implement the “Tatak” Pinoy Act and CREATE MORE Law to boost domestic manufacturing and promote fair trade.
This was one of the policy recommendations made by the industry group as President Marcos prepares to deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address today.
The FPI said implementing these laws and complementary measures would “strengthen domestic manufacturing, reinforce fair trade practices and drive the country’s reindustrialization.”
The Tatak Pinoy (Proudly Filipino) Act provides for the promotion of Philippine-made products and services.
It calls for providing proper funding and establishing a multisectoral Tatak Pinoy Council “to guide and monitor industrial development.”
The FPI also asked the government to accelerate the CREATE MORE Act’s rollout by “ensuring timely and fair access to incentives for both domestic and export-oriented manufacturers.”
It also suggested enforcing full compliance with the Philippine National Standards across all ports of entry to ensure that only safe and quality local and imported goods will enter the markets.
The FPI also said the government should enact a comprehensive antismuggling law, form a public-private task force reporting directly to the President, and put port digitization and enhanced customs profiling tools in place.
It likewise called on the government to bolster trade remedy mechanisms, adopt a balanced and strategic tariff policy and introduce a trade and industry defense system.
