In the choice between technicality against substance, substance and accountability is paramount. The spirit of the law on impeachment should be followed, which is to make the powerful accountable. If they have nothing to hide, they should not hide behind technicality.

Prof. David offers a thoughtful sociological view, but perhaps too much restraint is being asked from the political branches, when it was the judiciary that overstepped. The ruling didn’t just interpret the law, it effectively rewrote the process mid-game and applied it retroactively.
