UST College of Rehabilitation Sciences joins forces with University of Chichester for innovative ‘Posthuman Walking Project’

Avatar

To strengthen international research collaboration, the UST College of Rehabilitation Sciences has officially partnered with the University of Chichester in the United Kingdom. The collaboration, solidified through the signing of a research agreement in August 2023, marks a pivotal effort to recognize and harness the research expertise of Thomasian Physical Therapists. The signing ceremony was officiated by the Center for Health Research Movement Sciences supervisor, Prof. Valentin C. Dones III, Ph.D., and the Physical Therapy Department chairperson, Asst. Prof. Donald G. Manlapaz, Ph.D.

At the heart of this collaboration lies the “Posthuman Walking Project (PWP).” This initiative seeks to delve into the profound significance of walking in diverse cultural and socioeconomic contexts, taking into account factors such as location, climate, and purpose. The project encompasses both work-related and leisurely strolls.

The PWP is a dynamic collaboration involving five prestigious partner universities spanning the globe, including Canada, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, and the UK. Each of these institutions will handpick up to two partner-walkers who will play a central role in the research process during the project’s inaugural year and beyond. These chosen walkers represent a rich tapestry of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and will share their unique experiences, including insights into pain, musculoskeletal pain, and conditions like Fibromyalgia and Long COVID.

The Posthuman Walking Project is made possible through the generous support of the Landscape Research Group (LRG) 2023 Research Fund, operating under the theme of “Landscapes and Care.”
