Batangas is a province rich in natural resources, culture, and tradition. This is why it is no surprise that it has emerged as a favorite tourist destination, drawing both locals and foreigners to its diverse attractions.

Among its many tourist destinations are the Verde Island Passage and the Mother of All Asia. The two represent Batangas province’s tradition while embracing modernity. So whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a religious pilgrim, or someone seeking a taste of adventure, Batangas is bound to give you an unforgettable experience.

A marine marvel

One of the gems that make Batangas truly special is the Verde Island Passage, often referred to as the “Amazon of the Oceans.”

This vital corridor for marine-based tourism, transportation, and international shipping has become a focal point for conservation efforts. Marine scientists Kent Carpenter and Victor Springer hail it as the “center of the center of marine shore fish biodiversity.” The Philippines, with Verde Island Passage at its heart, was declared the Center of Marine Biodiversity in 2006.

This aquatic haven is more than just a scenic spot; it’s a seedbed of blue food survival and a treasure trove of marine life. Its importance in sustaining marine biodiversity surpasses that of renowned locations like the Tubbataha Reef and the Great Barrier Reef. The Coral Triangle, with the Philippines at its center, emphasizes the significance of preserving this underwater wonder.

For those eager to explore, the Marine Biodiversity Center awaits with its 2,000-sq.m. area and a digitalized aquarium, offering an immersive experience into the vibrant underwater world. The conservation efforts not only preserve marine life but contribute to the local economy through tourism, ensuring the delicate balance between environmental protection and economic prosperity.

Governor Hermilando “Dodo” Mandanas proudly shares that tourism in Batangas is making a resilient comeback, nearly reaching pre-pandemic levels. This resurgence can be attributed to the beauty of Batangas, as well as the commitment of its people to create a sustainable and inviting destination.
