BIZ BUZZ: General cleaning at IPOPHL sought

A group of intellectual property (IP) advocates has urged President Marcos to do some general cleaning at the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), expressing their frustration over delayed approvals and alleged incompetence at the agency.

A source privy to the matter told the Inquirer that two white papers seeking a leadership shake-up at the IPOPHL had already reached the Office of the President and the Department of Trade and Industry.

They claimed that the office was being bogged down by “excessive delays”—in everything from trivial tasks to critical program and budget planning activities.

One example: the approval of an invitation letter turns into a multiround ordeal, with revisions dragging on much longer than necessary, sometimes over minor and inconsequential details.
