Pinoy workers in Hong Kong get salary hike

Good news for domestic helpers working and those planning to work in Hong Kong. In an advisory, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said that the minimum allowable wage and food allowance for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) in Hong Kong has been increased by the Hong Kong Labor Department. From HK$4,730 (P36,917.65), the minimum monthly wage of FDHs in Hong Kong is now at HK$4,870 (P38,010.35). Also, the minimum food allowance has been raised from HK$1,196 (P9,334.78) to HKD1,236 (P9,646.98). DMW officer in charge Hans Leo Cacdac said the new rates are applicable to FDHs whose employment contracts have been signed on or after Sept. 30, 2023. There are around 190,000 Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong. —Tina G. Santos
