2 suspects in 14-year-old boy’s kidnap arrested

Two suspects linked to the February kidnapping of a 14-year-old Chinese student in Taguig City were arrested by authorities in Pasay City on Sept. 3, according to the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG).
In a report presented during a press briefing on Monday, PNP-AKG spokesperson Maj. Eleonor Villaruz identified the suspects as alias Marv and Tatang, both residents of Pasay City. Their arrest stemmed from a warrant issued by the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153 on charges of kidnapping with homicide.
No bail was recommended by the court for their temporary liberty.
Authorities reported that the 14-year-old victim was found on Macapagal Avenue in Parañaque City on Feb. 25, four days after he went missing after being fetched from school by the family’s driver. He was reunited with his father and brought to a private hospital in Taguig City for a medical examination.
Initially considered a suspect, the family’s driver was found dead in another vehicle in San Rafael town, Bulacan, on Feb. 21, while the family vehicle was found abandoned on C5 Road.
No ransom was reportedly paid for the victim’s release, although his captors initially demanded $20 million before later lowering their demand to $1 million.
His father, according to PNP public information chief Col. Randulf Tuaño, was connected to the Philippine offshore gaming operator industry.
