Their brands may be fierce rivals in the market but when called to do something they love to do, they end up enjoying a day in the sun – together.

Where? Of course, the golf course.

That’s what happened during the CAMPI Cup Invitational at the Hallow Ridge Filipinas course, an opportune time for the Presidents, CEOs, and all the VIPs of the auto industry to gather and have fun together at least for a day.

The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, an organization of the country’s 18 auto brands, hosted the 18-hole tournament primarily for a get-together among its leaders.

The presidents and heads of Toyota (Atsuhiro Okamoto), Mitsubishi (Takeshi Hara), Isuzu (Leo Fujita), Honda (Rie Miyake), AC Motors (Toti Zara), Suzuki (Norihide Takei) and Yosuke Nishi (Fuso) came to compete, bringing along members of their management teams.

Miyake, who just started playing golf on the prodding of her colleagues a couple of months ago, ended up winning the ladies division.

Even Mike Breen, the president and managing director of Ford, showed up during the awarding luncheon to show his support for his team and mingle with his fellow industry heads.

CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said that he was more than happy to have staged another fun event for members of the automotive community as CAMPI gears up for a big year with the Philippine International Motor Show slated to be held next year.

“As promised when we held the event last year, we made it bigger this time and we hope to keep on making it bigger and grander,” Gutierrez told the excited audience later as a bounty of prizes were given away.

The tournament had the Bank of Philippine Islands as presenter, and Shell and Petromin as major sponsors. The hole sponsors were Centro Manufacturing, OE Works, Rockwell, Automobile Association of the Philippines, GG&A Club Shares, Stradcom, and Pin High. Hole-in-one sponsors were Jetour and Srixon.
