Indonesian firm sets up shop in Batangas ecozone

Masurf Inc., a subsidiary of Indonesian food processing company Musim Mas, is the newest registered ecozone export enterprise in the Philippines. It is poised to start operations in two months.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) said Masurf signed a registration agreement. It will set up business operations at the Cocochem Agro-Industrial Park–Special Economic Zone in San Pascual, Batangas.

Masurf will jump-start commercial operations in November, with all its Batangas-manufactured products carrying the “Made in the Philippines, Cocochem Agro-Industrial Park–Special Economic Zone” label.

PEZA said the company will engage in the production and manufacture of export products. Specifically, it will make esterquat — an essential ingredient for fabric softeners — alongside other amine derivatives.

PEZA Director General Panga said Masurf’s entry into the Philippine market reflects foreign investors’ strong confidence in the country. He said it will also boost the Philippines’ position as a key global supplier of these products.

Through Masurf, Musim Mas entered into an agreement to acquire a manufacturing facility in Bauan, Batangas from a unit of American manufacturing firm Stepan Philippines Quaternaries, Inc.

This will also enable them to offer superior-quality surfactant ingredients by leveraging advanced manufacturing technologies at the new Batangas facility.

PEZA said Masurf’s business venture will make the Philippines a thriving hub for export-oriented industries.
