Maya Bank, Atome launch P2.75-B credit for Filipinos

Digital bank Maya and Singapore-based fintech firm player Atome sealed a P2.75-billion deal to boost credit access in the Philippines.

Maya Bank—with its platform offering payments, savings, loans, and deposits—will provide the capital support for Atome’s credit services.

“We are delighted to work with Atome in expanding credit access for more Filipinos,” Angelo Madrid, Maya Bank president, said in a statement on Thursday.

According to Madrid, their partnership helps underserved customers to tap “fast, secure, and responsible financing …”

Launched in Singapore in 2019, Atome has emerged as one of the leading digital finance groups in Southeast Asia. Its services include cards, lending, insurance and saving products.

In 2024 alone, Atome processed more than $2 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV) across the region.

As it gains more momentum not just from consumers, but also merchant tie-ups, Atome’s GMV has already hit $4 billion in June of this year.

In the Philippine market, the company said it has served over four million customers through its “buy now, pay later” scheme. Just in June, Atome said it had secured $75 million in fresh funds to expand its credit products for Filipinos.

“Atome’s mission has been to improve lives through greater financial access and technology, and this partnership with Maya Bank is a significant step forward in that journey in the Philippines,” said Christian Quiros, president and country general manager of Atome Philippines.

Last August, Maya Bank also teamed up with microfinancial services provider Cebuana Lhuillier to launch a flexible 30-day credit line for up to P30,000.

In May, Maya also introduced its first-ever black-tier Maya Black, which pitches perks typically reserved for high-end cardholders of most issuers.
