Gabriela nominee finally takes House seat

Gabriela Rep. Sarah Elago on Tuesday took her oath of office as the latest member of the House of Representatives for the 20th Congress, formally occupying the 64th party list seat.

She was sworn in by Speaker Faustino Dy III after the House received documents from the Commission on Elections declaring Gabriela as one of the party list groups that won in the May midterm elections.

Gabriela was originally out of the winning circle as only 63 seats were allocated for party list groups in the 20th Congress.

The Comelec, however, said the correct number should be 64, in compliance with a provision in the law which states that 20 percent of House seats should be allocated for party list groups.
