Magalong resigns as ICI adviser

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong resigned on Friday as special adviser to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), the body created by President Marcos to investigate graft-tainted public works projects.
In a letter to the President, Magalong said “The Palace’s pronouncements concerning my designation, which run contrary to the terms of my appointment, have undermined the role and mandate entrusted to me.”
“Combined with circumstances that already cast doubt on the independence of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, it has become clear that my continued service is no longer tenable,” he said.
Magalong did not elaborate on the pronouncements that made him step down.
Earlier on Friday, Palace press officer Claire Castro said the President would have his legal team study Magalong’s designation in the ICI to avoid conflict of interest.
