PH to seek Interpol’s help in finding Garma

Philippine authorities are seeking the assistance of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to compel former Police Col. Royina Garma to come home to face murder charges over the 2020 assassination of former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office executive Wesley Barayuga.

NationaI Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago said on Wednesday they have written to Philippine representatives of the Interpol, who, in turn, would relay the matter to their counterparts in Malaysia, where Garma is presumed to be since she left the Philippines on Sept. 7.

The NBI was left with this option after its agents failed to contact Garma who returned to the country on Sept. 6 after applying for asylum in the US. She left for Malaysia supposedly to meet with representatives from the International Criminal Court about testifying against former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We will coordinate with Interpol. And Malaysia has been cooperative with us … we will let them know that Garma has a (standing warrant of arrest) against her,” Santiago said.
