QC reports nearly 80-percent hike in dengue cases this year

Dengue cases in Quezon City this year are 79.44 percent higher compared with the previous year, with 9,243 cases recorded from Jan. 1 to Oct. 20 compared to 5,151 cases during the same period in 2024, based on data from the city’s health monitoring unit.

According to a Facebook post by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD), 35 of the city’s residents have died due to dengue this year as of Oct. 20, with four of them residents of Barangay Batasan Hills, the highest number of fatalities in all of the city’s the barangays.

Barangays Payatas B and Pinagkaisahan recorded three deaths each, while Capri, Commonwealth, Doña Imelda, Pinyahan and Tandang Sora had two deaths each.

The QCESD said that a disease surveillance team was sent to Barangay Pinagkaisahan last week to conduct an investigation and inspection following the clustering of dengue infections in the area, which had a total of 18 cases.

Together with sanitation inspectors and barangay health workers, the team also looked for and destroyed possible mosquito breeding sites near houses.

Health education campaigns were also organized to remind residents about the dangers of dengue, which can worsen if not treated early, and how to avoid the increase of mosquitoes in the area.

“The local government continues to remind residents to promptly consult with the nearest health center or hospital if experiencing fever for immediate and correct medical attention,” the QCESD said.

According to the health monitoring unit, symptoms of dengue include high fever, nosebleed, stomachache, rashes, intense headache, body ache and pain behind the eyes.
