New service links ICTSI’s Aussie port to China, Indonesia
Global ports operator International Container Terminal Services Inc., led by billionaire Enrique Razon Jr., has struck a deal to connect its Australian business directly with major ports in China and Indonesia.
This was made possible with the Koala service of shipping giant MSC. This serves the ports of Shanghai, Hong Kong and Jakarta as well as Fremantle, Adelaide and Melbourne in Australia.
In a statement on Tuesday, ICTSI said its Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) is now part of the Koala route. It is expected to take about 35 days to complete with seven vessels deployed.
Also, the new service is expected to provide exporters across Victoria with a weekly link to Asian markets.
“The arrival of the Koala service validates VICT’s key role as Australia’s preferred gateway for high-frequency, reliable shipping line services,” said Bruno Porchietto, chief executive officer of VICT.
The service also offers “increased flexibility to supply chains serving Australia’s largest consumer market” and provides shippers with “comprehensive coverage,” ICTSI said in a statement.
Located at Webb Dock East at the Port of Melbourne, VICT is touted as the first fully automated container terminal in Australia and one of the world’s most technologically advanced.
VICT provides the port with an added 33-percent capacity, equivalent to 1.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units.
Parent firm ICTSI, operates 33 terminals across 19 countries, including three in China and Indonesia. They are the Batu Ampar Container Terminal, East Java Multipurpose Terminal and Yantai International Container Terminals.
ICTSI is one of the most valuable companies in the Philippines. It posted a net income of $751.56 million for the first nine months of 2025, during which its port revenues reached $2.34 billion.
