BIZ BUZZ: New life for ex-US base
Another portion of a former US military base in La Union is in for a massive overhaul, with a P150-million project set to convert the Poro Point Baywalk into a sports and recreation complex complete with a 400-seater grandstand.
On Tuesday, the development was announced by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), which will provide the project site and codesign the complex with the Department of Public Works and Highways, also in charge of funding, procurement and construction.
Meanwhile, Poro Point Management Corp. will oversee inspection, coordination and maintenance upon completion.
All 8,000 square meters of the baywalk will be used to build the complex.
“The new baywalk development will provide both residents and visitors more reasons to enjoy La Union’s dynamic coastal lifestyle while supporting the province’s growing reputation as a destination for sports and recreation,” the BCDA said.
Poro Point is a 236.5-hectare land in San Fernando, La Union that once housed the US Wallace Air Station.
Last September, BCDA announced it was also building a P250-million airport terminal at the Poro Port Freeport Zone. —Logan Kal-El M. Zapanta INQ
