Crack 20-strong LPGT cast off to Taiwan for Party Open
The burden of winning a Taiwan LPGA Tour title for the first time in a long history of participation for the Philippines rests on the shoulders of a 20-strong contingent from the Ladies PGT as the NT$5 million (around P9.5 million) Party Ladies Golf Open tees off on Nov. 19 at Lily Golf Club in Guanxi Township in Hsinchu.
And that cast will not be lacking in eagerness and determination, especially Daniella Uy, whose fourth-place finish in 2019 remains to be the highest by any Filipino LPGT regular.
Princess Superal, the former Southeast Asian Games queen now campaigning in the Japan Step Up Tour, will also be in the fold together with Chanelle Avaricio, Harmie Constantino, Mafy Singson and Florence Bisera.
Superal tied for 16th when the LPGT first tied up with the TLPGA in 2018. Since then, several Filipino standouts have also contended, like Pauline del Rosario, who finished inside the top 10 for two straight years from 2023.
Thailand triumph
The 54-hole championship comes on the heels of the end of the local circuit that saw no one dominate, with Avaricio still fresh from winning the last leg, something which she can take to Taiwan as home bets; some from Thailand, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore are also seeing action.
Bisera, meanwhile, has a victory in Thailand in September to show as an international win, which came after she ruled the Negros Occidental leg.
Meanwhile, Constantino, the dominant force of last year’s LPGT season with four titles and another Order of Merit crown, is eyeing to end a slump with a win in Taiwan. Also entered are Lois Kaye Go, Martina Miñoza, Velinda Castil, Gretchen Villacencio, Annika Cedo, Marvi Monsalve and Rev Alcantara, all eager to contribute to a potential milestone moment for Philippine women’s golf.
Completing the Philippine delegation are Kristine Fleetwood, Monica Mandario, Marjorie Pulumbarit and Lee Ji-won, Nam Eun-hua, and Kim Seo-yun, who is equally motivated to redeem herself after twice faltering in the final round of LPGT events this year.
