Timeless tips for a beautiful Christmas home
The most wonderful time of the year is near.
And for us Filipinos, we bring in the Christmas cheer through displays and decorations that reflect the warmth and joy of the season. Here are some tips to make beautiful Christmas decorations easy for everyone.
Choose a theme
Before you buy or put up anything, make sure you’re clear about your theme.
Given the wide array of Christmas decorations available in stores, the best way to narrow down what you need is by choosing a specific theme. Will you go for a rustic look, or opt for a winter wonderland Christmas? Also, consider the color scheme and patterns you want throughout your space, and use them cohesively.

Find a focal point
Not all spaces in your home need to be decorated. You just have to be strategic in choosing which spots deserve the décor.
Entrances, living areas, a bit of the dining area, and even hallways are perfect places to spread the Christmas vibe. A focal point where most of the decorations are placed also works well. You can add small touches or “sneak peeks” throughout the house leading to that main centerpiece.
A small collection of poinsettias at the entrance and a few wreaths in the hallway help build excitement for the grand Christmas tree in the living room. Establishing a focal point also helps those on a budget focus their resources on the most important areas.

Combine the old and the new
What should you do with last year’s decorations? Combine them with the new ones. Find a common element such as a pattern, color, or finish that helps your existing décor blend with your current theme.

The visual triangle
One of the most effective principles that a decorating expert implements is the so-called Visual Triangle.
This is an imaginary shape that can help you decide on the layout or arrangement of your decor. Just like a triangle, the highest décor may be on the center of the arrangement with the smaller decor spread around it.

Personalization
As with any decorating project, adding personal touches elevates the story behind your displays.
You might hang family photos with ribbons on the Christmas tree, place a 3D sculpture of your pet among the ornaments for a whimsical touch, or use your favorite table lamp to light up the gift area for added warmth and thoughtfulness.
Christmas decorating is often a family affair. Make it an activity everyone looks forward to each year by keeping it simple and fun. Follow these tips and let your decorations reflect the joy and cheer of the season.
