EvoEnergi seals power deal with Boracay hotels

EvoEnergi, an affiliate of the listed Lao family-led D&L Industries Inc., has clinched a deal to provide power to a group of Boracay hotels.

In a statement over the weekend, the retail electricity supplier said five hotels — with some of them branded as a five-star luxury resort — have pooled their electricity demand to qualify under the government’s retail aggregation program (RAP).

RAP allows consumers or enterprises with multiple facilities sharing a common area to pool their demand to hit the 500-kilowatt threshold.

The hotels’ power needs were estimated at a total of 1,360 kilowatts.

This makes the group, called Evo Boracay, the first electricity retail-aggregated hotel group in the country.

These include Discovery World Boracay, Hue Hotels and Resorts of Luana Life & Style Leisure, The Lind Boracay of Scottland Leisure, Ferra Premier and Ferra Hotel & Garden Suites of JenGroup Leisure Inc.

“This is a historic milestone for Boracay and the hospitality industry as a whole,” said EvoEnergi president Julian Jacob Lao.

“The Evo Boracay Retail Aggregated Group is now empowered to take charge of its energy costs, especially given its seasonal requirements. The savings can be invested back into enhancing guest services, helping make Boracay an even more attractive destination for tourists,” he added.

The new agreement marks EvoEnergi’s expansion in the retail electricity market in the Visayas region.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said earlier that implementing RAP could promote competition while allowing consumers to manage their power costs.

As the government program gains more traction, not just in mainland Luzon, the ERC was hoping that “more institutions across the country will be inspired to follow suit.”
