UP still top PH school in 2026 QS Sustainability Rankings

Several Philippine universities improved their performance in the 2026 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Sustainability Rankings as they showed significant progress in sustainability efforts based on global metrics.

The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 evaluated almost 2,000 higher education institutions (HEIs) worldwide and assigned them scores based on their governance, and social and environmental impact.

The highest-ranked university in the Philippines remained the University of the Philippines (UP) at 371 with an overall score of 74.2. UP, however, dropped from its ranking of 333 in the previous QS ranking.

The country’s second-highest ranked HEI was Ateneo de Manila University, which rose from 503 in 2025 to 455 for 2026 with an overall score of 70.6.

De La Salle University also notched a significant rise in ranking as it placed 538th with an overall score of 67.4, from its previous placement in the 911-920 range.

The ranking of the University of Santo Tomas likewise rose to 834 with a score of 57.5, compared with its ranking of 1,041-1,060 in 2025.

Mapua University, on the other hand, dropped from its previous ranking of 1,141-1,160 to 1,251-1,300.

First-timers

Other Philippine universities that also made it to the list were Mindanao State-Iligan Institute of Technology which ranked 1,151-1,200; University of San Carlos, which ranked 1,401-1,500; and Cebu Technological University at 1,501+.

This was their first time to make it to the rankings since 2025.

Overall, the world’s top 10 universities that earned the highest scores in 2026 were Lund University (Sweden) with a score of 100; University of Toronto (Canada) – 99.8; University College London (United Kingdom) – 99; University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom) – 99.87; and University of British Columbia (Canada) – 98.6.

Next on the list were The London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom) – 98.5; Imperial College London (United Kingdom) – 98.2; University of New South Wales (Australia) – 98.2; McGill University (Canada) – 98.1; and The University of Manchester (United Kingdom) – 98.
